Re: Thank you for supporting the winter coat drive
Dear Supporters,
Thank you for your gift of $75.00 to the Anytown Neighborhood Trust on August 28, 2026, in support of our winter coat drive.
Your donation covered eleven children's coats, which went out through the school nurse's office in the first week of term. Fifty-three families collected coats this year, up from thirty-one last winter, and the nurse tells us nine of those families had not asked us for anything before.
The Anytown Neighborhood Trust is a 501(c)(3) organization, EIN 12-3456789. No goods or services were provided in exchange for this contribution. Please keep this letter for your tax records.
Sincerely,
John Doe
Nonprofit mailings are the letters an organization sends to the people who support it: thank-yous after a gift, written acknowledgments donors need for their tax records, appeals before a campaign, and updates to members and volunteers. Email does most of this work now, which is exactly why a printed letter still gets read — a donor who skims a newsletter will open an envelope addressed to them by name.
A written acknowledgment is not optional for larger gifts — the IRS requires donors to hold a contemporaneous written acknowledgment to substantiate a deduction of $250 or more, and a mailed letter is the form most donors file. Beyond compliance, post simply outperforms email for donor retention: an envelope is opened, a bulk email often is not.

Yes — a letter can be addressed to up to five recipients, each printed and mailed as its own piece. For a larger list, a periodical mailing is the better fit.
Genie drafts from what you give it, and will include your organization's name, EIN, the amount, and a statement about goods or services if you provide them. PostalGenie is not a tax adviser — check the wording against your own guidance before mailing.
Yes — attach the pages and they are printed and mailed behind the letter. Pages after the first are $0.49 each.
You say it. Genie writes it, addresses it, and gets it in the mail.
